Last Sunday I had the opportunity to visit the archives which are stored at the Gosnells Croquet Club. Marty and those before him have done a great job in collecting, organising and maintaining a significant amount of our croquet history.
I went with the clear goal of finding some information about the key players in our organisation but alas, I came away with only a few snippets. Still, each tiny piece helps build the stories.
My interest stemmed initally from wanting to find State Team photos of both our AC and GC teams. From there, it spread to sharing Marty’s work on the history of our former clubs, learning about some of the early competitions, producing individual profiles of all our AC and GC State Representatives and then onto recording all the Pennant photos I come across.
The latest quest is to share some information about our Life Members.
The flow of information was plentiful at first but has now become much more elusive.
Trove, Croquet Gazettes, Marty, Honour Boards, the Yardline magazine and club photo albums have been the basis of much of the information. A quick check just then, there are now 4 680 individaul photos and articles I have collected digitially since starting out and yes, they are sort of organised!
So, what is the real purpose of this post?
It may be that you know the families of some of our past Life Members, or there is a photo tucked away in a box in some dusty cupboard or storeroom that may help shed some light.
The key players I need help with are:
Life Members
- Pam O’Connor – Royal Park
- Irene Miller – Victoria Park
- Edna Hogben – Subiaco
- Edna Gordon – Fremantle, East Fremantle, Subiaco
State Players
- E Button (Elizabeth) – Victoria Park
- Elsie Minchin – Bayswater
- A. M. King (Alice)- Swan (Guilford)
- Bruce Buchanan – Nedlands
and I’m still chasing a 2009 GC State Team Photo
