The Southern Cross Croquet Club was officially opened on 12th June 1907 by the Mayoress Mrs F. H. Snook (Club President). The club secretary was Mrs G A Wilson.
The original court was earth but by 1910, the club had two grass courts which were also serviced with electric lights. In 1910 a pavilion was constructed.
Some early founding members: Mr and Mrs Phillips, Mrs G A Wilson – who in one article was referred to as the “Mother of Yilgarn croquet”, D L Burns and Mrs Geo Law.

Mrs Lockhead was Champion of the Yilgarn in 1913.
It seems the club became inactive after 1923 and in 1926, it is mentioned in one article that the Council wanted to turn the grass courts into a playgorund.
