A beautiful weekend weather wise for all those who turned out for a game of croquet.
Croquetwest GC State Open
Once again, Como Croquet Club were the hosts for our State Open GC tournament. A field of 16 turned up on Saturday and as Jennifer so eloquently wrote in an email yesterday – “Fabulous weekend with games played in good spirits. Perfect weather. What else could we want?”
After block play, 8 players progressed to the best of three knockout stage. Alan, Marty, Judith, Basil, Gary, Brett, Torben and David. All other players participated in a SWISS event with Harry and Graham joining in the fun.
Judith, Alan, Marty and Gary made it to the semi finals with eventually Gary and Alan meeting in a tense final (which could have gone either way at the end.)
In the SWISS event, Harry Goff triumphed and took home all the spoils.
Final: 3/7, 7/5, 7/6 (Full results on Croquetscores)
- Winner: Gary Phipps (Moorabinda)
- Runner Up: Alan Sands (Como)
- 3rd: Judith Nicholls (Moorabinda) & Martin Clarke (Gosnells)
- 5th: Basil Ladyman (Cambridge)
- 6th: Brett McHardy (Forrest Park)
- 7th: Torben Bak (Forrest Park)
- 8th: David Williams (Cambridge)
Our sincere thanks go to the Como Croquet Club for hosting this event and to all the volunteers who gave up their time ensuring everything ran so smoothly. It was also great to have so many people staying and watching the final. Whenever you visit Como, one is to made feel special and you always leave feeling spoilt.
Halls Head AC Club Championships
The AC Club Championships at Halls Head were completed in May. Sheila Twine won all her three matches with a peg out at each and a net hoop score of +52!
She told me: “That was the best I have ever played. After my fall and sprained wrist, I had to take extra care and it paid off”. David Hedges was Runner Up with two wins from his three games.
