Leederville Croquet Club

Leederville club was purported to have started in 1907 but for as much support as there is for this date there is also support for 1905.

It may be a case and I think it was of a club being started without a venue, that they then acquired later.

The original club colours were Navy and Saxe Blue, these were changed in 1971 to Cambridge and Oxford Blues !

A perennial small club in the inner suburbs it lasted until 2005 when it closed and was absorbed into the new Cambridge club in 2006.

So the significance of the murky start date becomes clear, maybe the club was 100 but maybe not !

Always involved in the pennants but only once taking the top gong, it none the less won many lower grade titles and to be fair some years enough teams entered to have multiple levels of A grade;

A grade 1916

B grade 1907, 1909, 1925, 1928, 1934, 1945, 1951, 1953, 1961

A2 in 1935

A3 in 1949

Div 2 in 1993

Div 3 in 1975

Div 4 in 1975

Div 5 in 1982 and 1985

The premises in Holyrood St is still recognizable as a former croquet venue, now a pavilion, childrens play area and park space.
