A.C.A. CHAMPIONSHIPS
CONDITIONS OF PLAY

- Entrants shall
have a current handicap from -3 to +7. However the ACA may accept entries
from players with a handicap outside this range. The A.C.A. reserves the
right to refuse any entry without assigning a reason and to have final
arbitration on any question that may arise.
- Should an
overseas player win an event, any perpetual trophy shall remain in Australia
in the custody of the Secretary of the ACA.
- All
events shall be played under the current Laws of Association Croquet and ACA approved Regulations for
tournaments unless other provisions have been made.
- The draws
shall be made by two members of the Executive Committee. The draws will be
conducted using the World Croquet Federation Seeding Committees
recommendations where possible. Programmes will be available from
Tournament Headquarters.
- The ACA.
Selectors will determine seeding for Singles events.
- All draws
shall be arranged to prevent players from the same state meeting one
another in the first round wherever possible.
- All
competitors who have not already provided an address and telephone number
at which messages can reach them during the event should provide this
information to the Tournament Manager on arrival in Perth.
- Hoops
shall be set at 3-11/16th inches with an upward
tolerance of 1/32nd of an inch and Dawson International balls
approved by the ACA shall be used.
- The Men’s
and Women’s Championship of Australia shall be limited to 48 entrants in
each event.
- The
events shall be conducted as follows:
1. Matches in Rounds 1 to 3 of the Men’s Singles Championship
of Australia and Rounds 1 and 2 of the Women’s
Singles Championship of Australia will be best of three knockout with nominal time
limits of 3, 2.5 and 2 hours for the first, second and third game respectively.
Each match shall have a cumulative time limit of 7.5 hours. Time not used in
the first and second games will be added to the second and third games
respectively. If time is called in any game and play continues in terms of
Regulation 15 (c) (2) and (3) the additional time to complete turns or to score
points shall be excluded from the time limits mentioned.

Matches in Rounds 4 to 6 of the Men’s and Rounds 3 to 5 of the Women’s Championship of Australia for the
remaining 8 players in each event will be best of three knockout and will have
no time limit. However, the Tournament Manager may impose a time limit in terms
of Regulation 15(b).

The Plate section of the Women’s & Men’s Championship of
Australia will be large blocks (preferably blocks of 8) for Round 1 and Round 2
losers. Block games will have a 2.5 hour time limit. Round 3 losers in the Mens
will play best
of three knockouts, with time limits outlined in 10.1. See Condition 29 for entry
to the Plate

Players may be required to play
5 games in a day.
- Games in
the Interstate Cup shall have a 3 hour time limit.
- Lawns on
which the tournament is to be played may be open for practice a few days
before the tournament commences at the discretion of the club concerned.
- After the
toss, players are permitted a five minute warm up with the balls to be
used in that game and on the court to be used. In best of three matches
players are permitted a five minute warm up before each game. Players with
a bye in Round 1 of the Men’s and Women’s Championship may practise on
lawns to be played on after the Round 1 match is completed and before the
commencement of the 5 minute warm up after players have tossed for balls.

- Lawns may
be available for practise 30 minutes before the commencement of play each
day and after the completion of play for the day, subject to club
requirements for dressing lawns and maintenance. The Venue Manager’s
approval should be sought for this practise and players assistance in preparing
and clearing lawns will ensure that this practice can continue.
- Matches shall
commence at 8.00 am unless otherwise indicated. Players are requested to
be at their designated venue before the scheduled starting time.
- Players
are generally allowed a break of up to 15 minutes between matches. For a
meal break between games, players may be allowed a break of up to 30
minutes. Venue Managers shall ensure games go on expeditiously to enable
completion of the scheduled programme. In best of three matches players
are expected to commence play in the second game immediately after the
completion of the first game, with allowance for a short break for
personnel issues (and recognised lunch breaks. Continue).
- The Venue
Manager at Clubs where an ACA. Tournament is being played shall be
authorised to inspect mallets before play commences.
- Hoops
shall be relocated as necessary.
- Players
and Officials must wear suitable, predominately white sportswear or their
approved club or state uniform. Flat-soled footwear must be worn.
- The
Tournament Manager in consultation with the Venue Manager shall decide
whether play in any match may continue if the weather is deteriorating.
- There will
be a Referee at each venue to act as required.
- Players’
attention is drawn to Law 49 regarding Expedition of Play and to Condition
65 of the ACA Handbook concerning Conduct of Players (in the activities of
the ACA).
- Special
damage may be repaired in accordance with Law 34( C ).

- The
Tournament Manager in consultation with the ACA Executive may make any
alterations to the programme, draw and other arrangements as are necessary
in order to complete the tournament in the time available.

Australian Handicapping System will be in force for this Tournament. Players must ensure that they have their
handicap cards with them and present them to the authorized person before
each event commences. Handicap changes will be effective after the
completion of each event.

Tournament Handicapper is Creina Dawson.
- Players
may enter the Plate events are as follows:
1. players knocked out in Rounds 1 and 2 of the
main events,
2. players not allocated a place in the main events,
3 players who are reserves in the main events,
4. players
not entering through the main event a fee of $20 will be charged
