GC Open Singles Results

Gary Phipps from Moorabinda Bunbury won his first GC WA State Open Singles title on the long weekend. Six time winner Chris McWhirter was the runner-up. Gary’s recent good form continued despite a slow start and going behind a game in the best of three final, he recovered with a brilliant boundary jump at hoop 13 in game two and won the deciding game.

Torben Bak was third and Michael Trefusis-Paynter continued his recent good run with a fourth place finish. The other quarter finalists were Alan Sands, Martin Clarke, Brett McHardy and Paul Christmass from Geraldton. The plate was won by Marcus McGavock of Forrest Park from Maggie Cussell of Gosnells. It was noted that despite the weather and heavy schedule of events that the standard was uniformly high and certainly top class in the final and consolation games. The event will be reviewed to refine some points for next time. A number of players also triggered handicaps during the event.

Thanks to Como and Victoria Park’s new home Higgins Park for hosting the event, also to all those who helped with catering, refereeing and court setting.
