The Captain of the 2000 team, Bruce Fleming really knew how to pump up his team!
Another new player who is destined to make his mark in International croquet is Martin Clarke. He impressed everyone in the recent Trans Tasman series with his determination and composure. The occasion will not overawe him and he is a superb doubles player. Martin will do what croquet is all about: hit the shots and go around.

Marty Clarke in his successful bombard pegout against Jeff Soo. This secured his second triple peel against Jeff to secure the match.

Marty isn’t scared of competing overseas either:

Greatest Moments in Croquet
Overall – Being part of winning interstate teams, it’s tough doing that from WA !
Personal – All round two ball break to win a game at the Resort on the Mountain event in Oregon USA { a deer walked across the court during the break ! }
Croquet Roles
National, – AC Team captain, GC High Performance Manager, Handicap committee, Coaching committee, Events committee, Historian/Archivist.
WA – State coach, State captain, Selector, Match Committee, Coaching committee, Handicap committee, Historian.
Marty is a keen historian and has spent many hours researching and updating our croquet records.

Marty enjoys a spot of quizzing and has hosted numerous quiz nights for the croquet community. He is also a keen collector of beer coasters!
In recognition of his efforts in developing the spot of croquet in Western Australia, the Most Improve Male Golf Croquet Player Trophy was named in his honour.
Recently Marty sent me a photo taken in 2002.
