On Monday and Tuesday of this week, Halls Head conducted the State AC Division 2 Singles. A field of 12 players competed over the two days in warmish conditions but if you watched the locals, you knew where the cool spots were. The players were certainly grateful for the way they were spoilt by the club in terms of refreshments and in making sure we were all sun smart.
It was my first visit to Halls Head and I was really impressed with the facilities and the work the club is doing to promote croquet in their local community. Sheila and all the Halks Head members are doing an amazing job and I can’t wait to see how their plans for the 2 new half court lawns come to fruition.
A special thanks go to Gwen Anderson and Val Alexander (both life members of the club) who refereed the event over the two days. It wasn’t an easy task to be watching and adjudicating three matches each day in the heat.
Dawn Robinson and Gary Phipps topped their respective blocks and met in the final. John Doepel and Bernie Lynch played off for 3rd and 4th. Full results can be found on Croquetscores. Everyone had a great time and we sincerely thank the club for hosting us.
