Around the Courts 19th December

This week Forrest Park was the host of the State GC B Grade Singles. A strong field of 13 battled it out on Tuesday and Thursday to see who would be successful in adding their name to the winners list.

It is not often we have an event separated by a rest day and so it will be interesting to hear from the participants how they found it. No doubt John appreciated the opportunity to put his feet up. The competition was very tight with 14 games being decided on hoop 13 but in the end, Judith Nicholls carried on with her good form from the Country Singles to top the table.

Full results can be found on Croquetscores.

  • Winner: Judith Nicholls
  • Runner Up: John Doepel

On Saturday and Sunday, Gosnells hosted the GC One Day Singles. There were many tight matches but both Martin Clarke and Torben Bak managed to get through their respective blocks unbeaten.

The final was won my Martin Clarke 7-4. Full results can be found on Croquetscores.

There was a GC Squad Practice Saturday with Marcus and Judith sharing the Gold Number 1 award for their efforts throughout the day.

Gold Trophy Squad Day

It was also another busy week for our clubs.

COMO TROPHY PRESENTATION

There were smiles all round during Como Croquet Club’s Trophy Presentation function. A good crowd gathered for the ceremony. It was pleasing to note a higher number of members competing in the Club’s championships this year. There were some familiar faces on the winners list, however it was great to see some new faces on the podium.

Thanks to the Code Captains for organising and managing the championships and the presentation ceremony. The Trophy Presentation was followed by the Christmas function, and as usual, it was a very pleasant evening that was enjoyed by all. Thanks to Di Dalzell for doing such a great job leading the organisation of the meals and setting up the clubhouse. (as posted on Como’s Facebook page)
