How are we tracking?

As I was flicking through the old Yardline magazines this past week, I have come across a range of interesting articles that I thought would be well worth sharing again.

One that caught my attention this morning was titled: Making Hoops – The Recipe.

It is loosely attributed to Martin Clarke so I thought it may be best to check with the chef to see if it does belong to him and if there has been any alterations to the recipe over the years. The version I saw was published in 2000.

For example: Under ingredients is listed 1 METAL HOOP. Check for firmness and size, which are both very important. Too wide and everything becomes sloppy. Too narrow and the recipe just won’t succeed. (I’m now wondering if one chooses the quadway variety, will have a positive or negative effect on the end result)

Anyway, the real purpose of today’s post was to look back on the membership figures that were posted in the 1991 edition of The Yardline. It makes for some interesting reading. In the years since, a number of clubs have closed and some new ones have been formed. The most important feature; however, is that the number of people playing croquet has risen quite significantly in the years since. Below is a summary of the figures from Feb 1991 compared to the data supplied by Max, that was compiled approximately 4 months ago.

Total Members in 1991 = 607

Total Members in 2022 = 1091

These numbers have continued to grow over the past few months with the addition of both Pinjarra and Hyden Croquet Clubs.

Hats off to everyone for all that you do in helping to grow our game.
