Croquetwest GC State Handicap Singles

This weekend saw the running of the time honoured GC State Handicap Event at the Moorabinda Croquet Club. A field of 27 turned out to do battle and considering the weather forecasts, we did remarkably well to get through both days with only short bursts of rain.

Sunday afternoon – just prior to the final.

It was great to see a few new faces taking the plunge and as it turned out, claiming all the spoils!

The format allowed us to get through quite a few games Saturday enabling us to target the top 4 from each block to progress to the finals. On average, most players contested 7 games on the Saturday with a few (Brian, Peter and Howard) managing to get through 9!

Our Finalists – Brian Scott and Peter Teede
  • Winner: Brian Scott (Dunsborough)
  • Runner Up: Peter Teede (Bunbury Central)

Although two players have won both the State GC and AC Handicaps events in the past (T Green, F Brockway), this is the first time someone has won it in the same year. What a terrific effort by Brian, especially as he has only been playing for such a short time.

Full results can be found on Croquetscores.

Many thanks to all the volunteers from Moorabinda for hosting the event, John D for his efforts in organising the draw (it was changed often), Marty for his refereeing prowess, and the many spectators who watched the final. It was a great atmosphere and the players certainly appreciated it.

Match Committee are very keen to receive feedback from the event. This is the second year we have trialled the ADVANTAGE system and so all views are welcome.

Geraldton GC Club Championships

This weekend saw Geraldton hold their annual GC Club Championships with a field of 9 taking to the courts.

From Kay: Sunday rains provided a new experience for most. Mary and Steve have only been playing for 6 months and Doug for eighteen months.  It was a very close competition with the results not clear until the final round was completed.

  • Winner: Paul Christmass
  • Runner Up: Paul Dodson

Cambridge Croquet Club – Patrons Trophy

Ian Tarling and Matthew Whitfield

Congratulations to Ian Tarling winner of the Patron’s Trophy today. Runner up Matthew Whitfield and Club Captain presented the Trophy. A good field of 18 competitors played in a few light showers of rain and enjoyed a hearty afternoon tea to finish.
